Additional insulation will increase the system’s performance and will also serve as an additional external protection for the pipe. This can significantly increase the service life. And for this, the selected material must have the necessary characteristics.
Basic requirements for insulation:
- Relatively low thermal conductivity.
- Resistance to temperature fluctuations.
- Good moisture absorption.
The easiest way is to use either thermal fiber or basalt wool. In the first case, the main advantage of the material in low density is somewhat reduced by the need for additional insulation. Cotton wool is very easy to work with and has excellent technical characteristics. But its cost is high.
Of the modern materials, polystyrene foam is the most popular. An insulator is produced in the form of a special shell, the installation of which can be easily handled even by a beginner. You can also fill the main line with foam concrete. Or a pipe for a water supply in the ground is supplied with a special heating cable.
